Chicago is indisputably one of America’s greatest cities. Birthplace of major businesses and famous individuals, the Second City has always been at the forefront of American culture and that remains true even today. A popular place to live and work, Chicago has flourished over the years. If you are thinking about moving to the area, Greystar has plenty of apartments for rent in Chicago. Before moving here, there are a few things you should know. Our team has put together a few tips for what it’s like to live in Chicago.

History of Diversity

Similar to all of the great cities in America, Chicago has welcomed immigrants from around the world. Ever since its beginning, people have brought their culture and traditions to Chicago, and because of that, the city has something for everyone. Food festivals celebrate this diversity year round, and you can also take part in various traditions and customs throughout the city.

Fantastic Dining

Authentic cultural cuisine is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Chicago. The city is famous for its excellent food. Of all the iconic plates, the deep dish pizza might be the first that comes to mind, and most everyone has a favorite place to grab a piece of pie. Going beyond pizza, you will discover a dizzying amount of dining options, including some of the best fine dining in the entire world. In 2017, Bon Appétit magazine named Chicago its Restaurant City of the Year, and Business Insider named six Chicago restaurants in their top 50 list. You will always find something good to eat in the Windy City.

A Livable City

One of the best parts about living in Chicago is that it is so easy to get around. Chicago boasts an impressive network of bike paths, giving bikers a safe and thorough network to get around the city. If you would prefer to walk, most neighborhoods are easily traversed. For longer travels, you can hop on the CTA Train System or use any of the bustling rideshare programs in the city. Even longer journeys call for a stop at Chicago O’Hare or Midway, both excellent airports that connect to anywhere in the country and world.

Wild World of Sports!

It’s hard to mention Chicago without referencing sports in some ways. Some of the most legendary teams in virtually any sport call Chicago home. Whether you enjoy hockey, football, baseball, or basketball, Chicago has it all, and their teams are almost always competitive. Even if they are having an off year, you’ll find plenty of Chicago fans celebrating (or commiserating) in tons of sports bars and restaurants around the city.

Never a Dull Moment

As we’ve mentioned, food festivals pop up around Chicago seemingly every week, and sports are a year-round affair in Chicago, but you can find so much more to do. From brewery tours in the fall to trips to the beaches in the summer, you will find your social calendars packed with interesting things to do. Also of note is the Chicago Marathon, Lollapalooza Chicago, and Taste of Chicago, all popular events that bring thousands of visitors to the city. Even more options await you at the Chicago Riverwalk, filled with restaurants and bars.

Chicago welcomes people from around the country and world to become a part of the city’s rich history. If you are thinking about moving to the area, find the perfect Greystar apartment in Chicago for you. We offer a number of communities around the city, so find the one that fits your needs.
