What Was Your Pledge for the 46th Earth Day?
April 22nd was the 46th Annual Earth Day! Earth Day is a day of action to help change our behavior, make a commitment to protecting the environment and to make our planet more sustainable. It all began in 1970, when over 20 million Americans held peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reforms. Now, coordinated by the non-profit Earth Day network, Earth Day is being observed in more than 190 countries. As a result of acknowledging the need to make changes on Earth Day, we can continue to make a conscious effort to live greener every day.
What was your 2016 Earth Day pledge?
At Greystar, our team members across the world have pledged to walk, bike, car pool or use mass transportation. This not only benefits our environment, but our health as well!
In addition, many of our apartment communities held special Earth Day celebrations and encouraged residents to get involved. Team members also volunteered in their local communities. Here are just a few examples of the things our communities did to celebrate Earth Day:
- The Seasons in Lynnwood, WA encouraged residents to brighten up their patios by planting container flowers and herbs. Each resident that came also had the opportunity to be in a drawing for a flower basket.
- Folio Apartments in Austin, TX handed out “Folio” flowers to their residents.
Showing love and appreciation for the planet we live on does not require a large amount of effort. We simply need to be aware and continue to educate one another to make decisions that are good for our environment.
