The holidays are a wonderful time of year for reconnecting with friends, family, and loved ones, and holiday décor is a fun tradition many take part in. Make the most of your apartment space by using these tips post-holiday season to stay fresh and organized for the new year.

Cabinet Space

Many Greystar apartments offer plenty of kitchen, bathroom, and even laundry room cabinet space. Take advantage of upper cabinets that are generally hard to reach by storing your smaller holiday décor there. Use clear, labeled bins to separate bulk items (like ornaments or Christmas lights). For breakable items, consider using soft items like stockings to wrap them in as an eco-friendly, affordable packing solution. For larger boxes, consider using the top shelf of your closet as an additional storage space.

Storing Holiday Lights

Speaking of holiday lights, use a large, flat circular object like a wooden dowel to wrap your lights safely. Then, if they are glass, wrap the lights again in a newspaper or a soft towel. If packing your lights with other objects, place the lights at the top to avoid heavy objects shattering them while they are stored away.

Storing Wreaths and Garland

Many Greystar residents love to decorate their patios or front doors with holiday décor. If you opted for a reusable wreath, consider purchasing a fabric wreath storage bag to keep it safe throughout the year. Tip: Keep your wreath hanger stored with your wreath for easy access come next winter season. If you use a garland in your holiday décor, neatly coil it into a snake-like circle and then place it into a clear plastic tub. If the garland has attached ornaments or lights, be sure to wrap them safely and separately to prevent breakage.

Storing Ornaments

Have you collected special, heartfelt ornaments throughout your years? Keep them safe by using DIY cardboard separators that are eco-friendly and easy to make. To begin, all you’ll need are a pair of scissors and extra cardboard, perhaps from holiday shipping boxes. For the complete list of instructions, visit HomeSteady.

Don’t Forget to Check Your Cabinets

There’s nothing worse than opening a storage bin after 11 months only to find expired food! Before you pack, especially if you have any children helping you organize, be sure to remove any perishable items including candy, gingerbread, and more. For good measure, get a head start on your New Year’s cleaning by doing a full-sweep of the fridge for any extra holiday food or goodies that have gone bad.

Apartment Storage Space

Select Greystar apartments around the world offer additional storage spaces for rent on a monthly to annual basis. For large items, like a Christmas tree, consider asking your Leasing Professional team if this is an option your apartment property offers.
