Talent and Culture June 2, 2021

June is international Pride Month, commemorating the June 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City and honoring the impact of LGBTQIA+ people around the world. Amid ongoing international COVID-19 precautions, many Pride festivals, marches, and celebrations have been postponed until the fall – but don’t let that stop your celebration. Discover five Pride events happening later this year and learn how you can celebrate Pride at home this summer:

Albuquerque Pride: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Since 1976, Albuquerque Pride has provided a safe space to network, come out, and explore the New Mexico LGBTQIA+ community. This non-profit organization not only hosts the annual festival but provides year-round outreach educating the general public on the issues and lives of the community. The 2021 Albuquerque Pride festival will take place virtually on their Facebook page through live video streams.

Pride BCN: Barcelona, Spain
Since 2008, Barcelona has hosted Pride BCN each summer to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and fight for the rights and freedoms of the community. This event offers a parade, concerts, conferences, movies, and exhibitions to provide visibility and create awareness. Take a glance at the 2020 virtual event to see what this year’s celebration has in store.

Pride in London: London, England
The UK’s largest Pride festival will be held September 11, 2021 in London, England, to support equality and diversity around the world. Pride in London is a not-for-profit organization and funds raised from the event are used to support the LGBTQIA+ communities in the area to raise awareness for critical issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow the community to live their lives on equal footing.

Magic Pride Festival: Madison, Wisconsin
Madison, Wisconsin’s second annual Magic Pride Festival will be held August 22, 2021 to support the OutReach LGBTQ+ Community Center. This festival will be entirely online, so no need to be a local to attend! The virtual event will include entertainment, speakers, hosts, as well as a virtual vendor area to support local artists.

Nashville Pride: Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville Pride will take place September 18 and 19, 2021 at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. This Pride celebration is perfect for any age, hosting a kid’s zone, youth area, dance section, vendor market, and so much more! In previous years, entertainment for Nashville Pride has included Lizzo, Betty Who, and many more incredible artists.

Celebrate at Home
While waiting for the celebration to begin, there are many ways you can support the community throughout Pride month while at home. From supporting LGBTQIA+ artists and authors to watching incredible and educational documentaries surrounding the history of Pride, hanging a Pride flag on your balcony (please refer to and follow Greystar community rules), to attending a virtual Pride event online, the options are limitless when it comes to your celebration.

At Greystar, we are proud of staying true to our core values of diversity and inclusion and remain a people-focused organization, both to our team and to the residents we support.
