Greystar Maintenance Supervisor Named NAA Maintenance Legend

Courtland Audain, Maintenance Supervisor at Greystar's Broadstone North Lamar community in Austin, has been named a National Apartment Association (NAA) Maintenance Legend. The award, one of the industry's top honors for maintenance professionals, came with a new Ford F-150 and a $10,000 cash prize.
Audain began his maintenance career in 2015 through a two-month workforce training program in Austin. Since then, he has built a career marked by recognition and steady advancement, including:
· 2015 Rookie of the Year (Rainier Properties)
· 2019 Texas Apartment Association Maintenance Professional of the Year
· 2020 Rookie Maintenance Supervisor of the Year (Berkshire)
· 2021 NAA Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) of the Year
He joined Greystar in 2024 to help open a new mid-rise community—the first ground-up opening of his career.
"I never get comfortable," Audain said. "Every day I try to learn something new or get stronger at something."
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Audain moved to New York in 1979, later lived in Miami, and eventually settled in Austin. Before entering the maintenance field, he worked in a shipyard, in hospital grounds maintenance, and in insurance adjusting.
When his name was announced as the Maintenance Legend winner, Audain says his first instinct was to acknowledge the other finalists before taking the stage. "I was in real shock—everybody there wanted to win," he said. "Instead of going straight to the stage, I turned around and went to everybody first. I wanted to give them a little boost."
Audain says his next goal is to focus on training and mentorship, particularly for young people considering a career in maintenance.
"I think I can give a lot to the industry," he said. "There are young people out there who do not see the picture yet. We have to show them how lovely it can be."
