On the north side of Houston is one of the area’s best kept secrets: The Woodlands. A master planned community, the Woodlands has become one of the most desirable places to live in the area, and it’s easy to see why: lush, natural landscape, upscale dining and shopping areas, and plenty of entertainment. As large as Houston itself is, the Woodlands is like a self-contained bubble of high-end living. Greystar offers a number of apartments in the Woodlands for you to choose from, each offering their own unique luxury and comfort.

If you are thinking about moving to the Woodlands, TX, here are a few things you should know ahead of time:

Planes, (No) Trains and Automobiles

While the Woodlands does not offer a robust train line, it does feature a number of park and ride locations, where you can hop on a bus to get around the city. Most people who move to the Woodlands will want a car in order to leave the area, but you might find yourself sticking to the Woodlands area more and more often as you realize how much there is to do there! When you’re ready to go on a trip, you can head to the nearby George Bush Intercontinental Airport or Houston Hobby, both just a short car ride away.

Things to Do

There are far too many restaurants and shops to mention all of them. There are two hot spots that everyone who lives in the Woodlands know about. Cynthia Woods Pavilion is an enormous music venue that attracts top names in music. People from all over the city and the area come out for a good evening of music and more. Another popular destination is Market Street. The mixed-use area is filled with popular entertainment destinations, shops, and restaurants. Its proximity to the Pavilion make it a great destination for a fun night out.

Green Living

It’s called the Woodlands for a good reason: the area is dotted with greenery. In total, there are 130 community parks, all connected via 205 miles of pathways. You can spend the afternoon getting lost in the splendor of nature while sticking close to your Greystar apartment! All the natural scenery offers a nice respite from the concrete jungle of downtown Houston. Some of our favorite parks include Alden Woods Park, Bear Branch Park, and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. You can also find plenty of locations to go hiking, biking, fishing, and boating.

Become a Part of Tradition

People living in the Woodlands love their traditions, and it’s easy to see why: the area goes all out in celebrating and enjoying life. From Labor Day events to cookouts on Memorial Day weekend, the entire area seems to celebrate together. You should definitely enjoy local traditions like the Lighting of the Doves, an annual winter event that includes multicultural performances, fireworks, ice carvers, and more.

Good Food Abounds

Despite being a little under 44 square miles in size, the Woodlands packs a culinary wallop of choices. In this little area, you will find more than 200 restaurants, from national chains to specialty stops. Virtually whatever you are craving, you can find in the Woodlands. After you’ve had a good meal, you can stop by the fabulous shops on Market Street, at the Woodlands Mall, or at Hughes Landing.

The Growing Woodlands

From 2000 to 2014, the Woodlands grew a little under 94% in terms of residents. This meteoric growth is not just in people.
