Dry Your Laundry without Electricity to Reduce Energy Costs

Although using electricity is usually a necessity, the more you use the higher your energy bills will be. Not to mention that cutting down on your energy use in multifamily housing is a responsible way to help the environment. One way that you can do this is by resisting the urge to use, or limit the use of your dry cleaner, when you are doing laundry.

Doing laundry takes up a ton of energy. Obviously, washing your clothes in the machine takes much less effort than washing them by hand. However, there’s no reason why you can’t hang your clothes up to dry instead of drying them in the dryer. According to statistics from ten years ago, almost 5.8 percent of residential electricity is used up by the dryer. These statistics may be slightly older, but clothes dryers haven’t become that much more efficient. Those that have tend to be much higher end. Instead of using your dryer, pick up an affordable drying rack. You can find fold up drying racks that don’t take up much space when put away, or even get a dryer rack that hangs from the ceiling.  Or dry your clothes part way, then hang on hangers – fewer wrinkles this way, too!
