Berlin, 3 September 2026 –Greystar, a global leader in the investment, development and management of rental housing, and Ten Brinke, a European real estate development and construction company, yesterday marked the groundbreaking of a new residential scheme in Berlin-Marzahn. Located at Jan-Petersen-Straße 14, on the former Carrée Marzahn site, the development will deliver 428 privately financed rental homes by the end of 2028.

The project will comprise an eleven-storey tower and a six-storey residential building, offering a mix of studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging with private outdoor space. Around 8,000 sqm of ground-floor retail space will support local everyday needs, alongside resident amenities and approximately 111 parking spaces. The buildings will be constructed to current energy-efficiency standards and will feature air-source heat pumps.

Harlan Schade, Director – Investment, Germany & Austria, Greystar, said: “Germany remains an important market for Greystar, and we continue to see a strong long-term case for investment in rental housing. Bringing forward new homes requires patient capital and strong local partnerships, particularly in a challenging development environment. JP14 is a good example of that approach in practice, and we are pleased to be progressing the project with Ten Brinke.”

Arjen ten Brinke, Managing Director at Ten Brinke, said: “Today’s groundbreaking marks the start of a key phase for the project. Our ambition is to combine construction quality, efficiency and sustainability. Together with Greystar, we are delivering a residential community in Berlin-Marzahn that will meet the needs of modern urban living for years to come.”

The site in Marzahn-Mitte benefits from strong public transport connections as well as a wide range of shops, schools and childcare facilities nearby. The Bürgerpark Marzahn tram stop is just a few minutes away, while Raoul-Wallenberg-Straße S-Bahn station can be reached in under 20 minutes and Alexanderplatz in around 40 minutes. The surrounding area is also home to several business and technology parks, with Mediaspree, one of Berlin’s largest office hubs and home to companies including Amazon, Zalando and Coca-Cola, within easy reach.

The project brings together two experienced partners with complementary capabilities. As a family-owned company, Ten Brinke contributes more than 50 years of experience in developing and delivering projects in Germany. Greystar complements this local expertise with extensive global experience in rental housing investment and management. The company manages more than 1.1 million rental homes and student beds globally, including more than 70,000 units across eight European markets.

Demolition works are currently underway on the site, with construction of the new buildings to follow. The Mix Markt supermarket and Goldfischchen daycare centre will remain open throughout the construction period.
