Greystar is pleased to announce the launch of a national fundraising drive to support Camp Hope, a PTSD Foundation of America Outreach.  Camp Hope is dedicated to serving the needs of veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition to providing temporary housing, Camp Hope offers a resident recovery program, individual mentoring sessions with certified combat trauma mentors, job placement and peer support groups.

“We are proud to support the work of Camp Hope and their efforts to make a difference in the lives of so many veterans and their families,” said Doug Brown, Global Managing Director of Capital Projects for Greystar.  “With the help of our team members, residents and the community, we hope to increase awareness of PTSD and the programs available to assist veterans.”

Greystar team members in Houston initially began working with the PTSD Foundation of America in February, 2011, and the partnership has grown tremendously over the last three years. Greystar was instrumental in the development and construction of a new 5 acre campus for Camp Hope. Greystar has also hired veterans who have gone through the program at Camp Hope who are now excellent members of their team.

“For the sake of our troops, veterans and their family members that we serve, we are excited and grateful for this great partnership with Greystar,” said David Maulsby, Executive Director for the PTSD Foundation of America.

According to statistics provided by the PTSD Foundation of America, one in three returning troops are being diagnosed with serious Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms, but less than 40% will seek help. On average five active duty troops, often experiencing PTSD from current or previous combat missions, attempt suicide each day. Projections are 150,000 veterans will take their own lives in the next 10 years (41 veterans a day). More active duty troops have died at their own hands the past three years than have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Greystar is currently accepting monetary donations for Camp Hope and the PTSD Foundation of America online at www.ptsdusa.org. Contributions can also be made to the PTSD Foundation of America at any Greystar managed community. 100% of every donation will go directly to help a service member, veteran and their immediate families that are suffering with the unseen wounds of war, PTSD.
