Greystar, The Global Leader in Rental Housing™, has been recognized second year in a row by The Denver Post as one of Colorado’s top places to work in 2020.

2020 marks the eighth year The Denver Post has teamed up with the Philadelphia-based software company Energage to deliver Colorado’s Top Workplaces. The results are determined by an employee engagement survey, not outside observances from The Denver Post or another third party. All employers – public, private, nonprofit and governmental – are eligible to participate, if they have at least 50 employees in Colorado. To accurately compare results, employers are grouped into large, midsize and small company categories. Greystar’s Colorado team will learn its placement in the large company category in a future publication date.

Employees from Greystar and other companies took the survey, which contained 24 questions regarding topics related to workplace culture:

  • Alignment – Where the company is headed, its values, cooperation
  • Connection – Employees feel appreciated, their work is meaningful
  • Effectiveness – Doing things efficiently and well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
  • Management – Cares about concerns, helps employees develop
  • Engagement – Motivation, retention, and recruiting
  • Leadership – Confidence in company leaders
  • The Basics – Pay, benefits, flexibility, training and expectations

Taylor Mueller, Denver’s Senior Managing Director with Greystar, said she believes the positive response from their region’s 700-plus employees are attributed to the company’s people-first approach.

“For the past 6 years, we’ve focused with intention on two of our company pillars, People and Customer Service. The emphasis has served us well, experiencing year over year growth leading to a high percentage of internal promotions and improving customer service scores.  This has allowed us to pivot our hiring process to focus more on mindset and culture fit.  Mindset will always trumps’ skill set”, says Taylor. She sees a direct correlation between this, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and company growth.  “When we focus on mindset first, our bench strength is constantly evolving, offering further career opportunities for high performers as we grow our platform globally. To further support our team members, we offer extensive training opportunities in multiple ways, helping them tailor their learning opportunities to fit their style.”

In 2015, Greystar made huge investments in leadership development and talent acquisition platforms which has been the catalyst for positive change. Leaders at both the community and corporate level can choose to participate in the two-year leadership program aimed at improving interpersonal communication skills, recruiting for mindset, career development and conflict resolution. The Greenwood Village location continues to graduate new leaders twice per year. Graduates of the program provide a capstone presentation and have gone on to become stronger mentors for their work groups. Taylor attributes this program as a core building block of where they are today.

This service-driven philosophy is part of Greystar’s Pillars of Excellence and Core Values, which are the foundation of how the largest multi-family property manager in the United States operates. These Pillars of Excellence include customer satisfaction, operational excellence, profitability, growth and community, while the Core Values are integrity, respect, professionalism, accountability, service and teamwork.
