Create a Vintage Tin Herb Garden

Many apartment residents don’t even think about gardening. After all, there just isn’t a place to do it. But with a little bit of planning, it is possible to have your own herb garden using creative vintage tins – even if you only have a windowsill to devote to growing herbs.

Choosing and Preparing Containers

Pretty much any tin container will work, but you want to choose one that isn’t too tiny. Vintage tea containers work especially well because herbs won’t outgrow the containers overnight.

To prepare the containers, fill the bottom of each one with pebbles and a small amount of potting soil. This will help your herbs retain water, which they won’t get everyday growing on your windowsill.

What Should I Grow?

Herbs are ideal in small container gardens like you would have with a group of tea tins. Mint, basil, parsley, rosemary and sage are all practical, and you should find uses for them in your kitchen. You can also plant micro-greens in container gardens, but they do require a bit more water and care than herbs in most cases.
