Great Universities

As we previously mentioned, the Research Triangle Park (commonly referred to as the RTP by locals) is the largest of its kind in the world. The three points of the triangle are formed by three outstanding universities: North Carolina State, Duke, and University of North Carolina. All three universities are highly acclaimed. Even if you don’t plan on attending a school, each school offers plenty of fun offerings open to the public, from sporting events to fantastic theater and musical performances.

Getting Around Raleigh

Raleigh is very much a driving city. The city is large and the public transportation system has not quite caught up to the explosive growth. That being said, the city itself is very pedestrian friendly and it is not uncommon to park your car and walk around an area. Bicyclists can also pedal easy knowing that Raleigh has been designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. The city is actively expanding its bicycle amenities and improving conditions for pedestrians.

Green, Green, Green

Nature lovers are in luck: Raleigh is surrounded by beautiful parks and nature trails. Residents of Raleigh love the great outdoors, and this is reflected in both the quality and quantity of parks. Go biking or hiking in Umstead State Park, or spend an afternoon at Pullen Park. The Neuse River Trail winds its way along the river and is a great place to go cycling or hiking. Finally, the historic Yates Mill County Park should not be missed, with its picturesque water mill that looks like it was ripped straight out of a painting.

Something for Everyone

Regardless of what you’re into, Raleigh probably has it. You can find excellent shopping in the North Hills or Cameron Village areas. At night, the city bustles with activity and the promise of something fun to discover. If you love music, the PNC Arena and Red Hat amphitheater invite top musical acts on a regular basis. Foodies will also find plenty to taste in downtown Raleigh, from seafood to BBQ and everything in between.
